When The Homestead resort in Virginia's Allegheny Mountains needed bartenders, they came directly to PBS to recruit. The 250-year-old luxury property has hosted 22 U.S. Presidents over its history. Known for its hot springs, championship golf courses, ski slopes, fly fishing, horseback riding, and corporate meeting facilities, it is one of the premier destination resorts on the East Coast. Sam Snead made the resort his home base, and Sam Snead's Tavern is a dining venue on the property. The Homestead held on-site interviews with both graduates and current students at our Arlington campus.
The Homestead is not a casual neighborhood bar. It is a destination resort that expects polished, professional service from every member of its staff. When venues at that level come to recruit directly, it reflects the kind of training our graduates bring to the table.
Prior on-site recruitment visits at PBS have included TGI Friday's, Applebee's, DC clubs, and local restaurant chains. Some graduates from prior visits advanced to management and returned to PBS to hire new bartenders. For students, opportunities like this are a reminder that bartending can take you to remarkable places. A position at a resort like The Homestead is not just a job - it is an experience. And it is the kind of placement that looks excellent on a resume when you are ready for your next move.
